​FAVORITE BASEBALL PLAYER GROWING UP: Rickey Henderson

As a senior at West Brook Senior High School in Beaumont, Texas, Coach Ambres was named a second-team All-American by Baseball America and to the USA Today All-USA high school baseball team; additionally, he established himself as a highly recruited quarterback. Reaching the status of being ranked as the top-rated quarterback in the State of Texas, he signed a national letter of intent to play football at Texas A&M University but ultimately opted to play baseball after he was selected 27th overall by the Florida Marlins in the 1998 Major League Baseball Draft. Ambres played 11 years of professional baseball for several MLB teams, including the Boston Red Sox, Kansas City Royals, New York Mets, and San Diego Padres. Since retiring, Ambres has been a coach for youth-select baseball teams for over 12 years.
